TransGen Island
The first simulation in the SciEthics Interactive project, TransGen Island, is centered on the scientific and moral issues of genetic modification (transgenic salmon). Within the virtual environment, students are able to gather data, analyze the data, and produce a final report. While doing so, they must deal with ethical issues in data integrity, environmental impact, and animal welfare. TransGen Island has already received notice from the virtual worlds community, winning second place in the Concept Building category of the Federal Virtual Worlds Challenge sponsored by the US Army.

Rainforest Research
The second simulation in the SciEthics Interactive project, Rainforest Research Island, is focused on preservation of a rainforest habitat. Students analyze trees for carbon storage using allometric equations, explore this island, and produce a final report. They experience a variety of environmental issues, an indigenous population, and financial concerns.
Rainforest Research island will be released in Summer 2013. To use this island on the MOSES grid, sign up here.
